HMP Whitemoor Mutiny: Eight Killers Jailed Extra Time After Brutal 10-Hour Riot
Eight violent criminals have been hit with extra jail time following a savage 10-hour mutiny at the high-security HMP Whitemoor prison.
Prisoners Spark Chaos with Violent Stand-Off
The mayhem kicked off around noon on 7 October 2022 when inmates refused to return to their cells after lunch. The rowdy gang swiftly barricaded themselves inside, stacking up furniture and wielding homemade weapons. They used smashed table legs and kettles as weapons, and flooded the floor with oil, shower gel, and shampoo—turning the prison landing into a slippery death trap for prison staff.
Guards initially tried to calm the situation while locking down other prisoners. But threats forced officers to retreat. A national prison response team and specialist negotiators were called in to handle the crisis.
Barricades, Makeshift Helmets and Night-Long Showdown
By 8pm, officers launched an attempt to breach the fortified barricades. The inmates were prepared, wearing homemade headgear to shield themselves from PAVA spray and pyrotechnic devices. The violent stand-off lasted until around 10pm when guards stormed the cell of ringleader Korie Hassan, finally ending the mutiny.
