Nine Royal Navy Crew Axed After Cocaine and Sex Scandal on Nuclear Sub
Nine Royal Navy submariners from HMS Vigilant have been sacked after testing positive for cocaine during a sex-fuelled probe. The shock drug bust rocked the senior service’s nuclear-armed submarine while it was docked in the US, where it was set to pick up Trident warheads.
Drug-fuelled Sex Parties on Nuclear Sub
The sailors reportedly threw wild parties, mixing Class A drugs with sex while on duty. HMS Vigilant’s captain and his second-in-command, both key figures overseeing the UK’s nuclear deterrent, have also been removed amid allegations of affairs with female officers.
Commanders Caught up in Affairs
- Lieutenant Commander Michael Seal, 36, was booted following claims of an affair with female engineer Lieutenant Hannah Litchfield, 27.
- Commander Stuart Armstrong, 41, the sub’s captain, faces scrutiny over an alleged relationship with Sub-Lieutenant Rebecca Edwards, 25.
Another serviceman is facing a court martial after going AWOL and flying home to the UK to see his girlfriend. Meanwhile, two more submariners have quit in the chaos.
One In Ten Crew Now Out or Under Investigation
In total, around 10% of HMS Vigilant’s 168-strong crew have been either dismissed, resigned, or are currently under investigation. This is shaping up as one of the biggest sex and drug scandals ever to hit the Royal Navy’s elite submarine force.
The burning question remains: how on earth did these officers get commissioned on HMS Not-so-Vigilant?
