A 22-year-old woman, Maria Carolina Do Nascimento Migel, tragically died after the car she was in collided with another vehicle near Brent Cross Flyover on Hendon Way, NW4. The fatal crash occurred at approximately 3.45am.
Police officers on patrol spotted a car near Hendon Way, NW2, and attempted to stop it. The vehicle ignored the officers and sped away, but no pursuit was initiated. Minutes later, the same car collided with another vehicle. The occupants of the fleeing car then fled the scene on foot.
Paramedics responded promptly but were unable to save Maria, who died at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle sustained a head injury but remains in stable condition.
Four men, aged 29, 29, 21, and 32, have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision. All four were later released on bail pending further investigation.
Authorities are appealing for witnesses to come forward, particularly anyone with dash cam footage. Members of the public are encouraged to contact police on 101 or tweet @MetCC, quoting CAD933/25Dec. Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
The Metropolitan Police’s Directorate of Professional Standards has been notified, and the Independent Office for Police Conduct is involved as part of standard procedure in serious incidents of this nature.
