A BMW driver has been sentenced to five years in prison after a dangerous crash on the M25 resulted in the death of motorcyclist Attila Radi in 2021.
Ashley McCabe, 36, from Herne Bay, Kent, was also given a 15-year driving ban and will be subject to an additional five years on licence after his release.
The fatal collision occurred on April 18, 2021, when 33-year-old Attila Radi and his fiancée were riding their motorbike home from Surrey. Both were wearing high-visibility gear on a bright and clear day.
Witnesses reported that McCabe was tailgating a white Audi S5 near junctions 7 and 6 on the M25. He then swerved his grey BMW 1 Series into lane three in an attempt to overtake the Audi, colliding with Radi’s motorcycle.
As a result of the crash, Radi was thrown into the central reservation and died at the scene. His fiancée sustained injuries but survived the incident.
McCabe fled the scene initially but surrendered to the police the following day.
At Kingston Crown Court in July, McCabe denied noticing the motorbike but was found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving. He was sentenced on October 22.
Detective Constable Marlon Nolan said, “The dangerous actions of McCabe led to the worst-case scenario and the completely avoidable death of Attila Radi. McCabe’s driving was aggressive, dangerous, and intimidating, showing total disrespect for others. He will now have time to think about the life he needlessly ended.”
