Ashford Cop Smashes 100 Arrests in a Year
PC Alex McCallam of Ashford has clocked up a staggering 118 arrests in 2025, taking down burglars, robbers, domestic abusers, and more. His no-nonsense approach to policing is turning heads across Kent.
Quick Thinking on the Motorway
Alex doesn’t just wait for calls; he hunts criminals down. One night, while on patrol in Ashford High Street, he heard about knife-wielding crooks who’d robbed a woman’s car in Dover. Knowing they’d speed back to London via the M20, he jumped into action.
“With my supervisors’ go-ahead, I hit the motorway and tailed the suspects. We chased them along the M20 and stopped the vehicle on the M26. I arrested the driver, who’s now charged and remanded,” said PC McCallam.
He describes the thrill of an arrest and the relief it brings to victims as “priceless.”
Grit, Guts and Gadgets
Trained in vehicle pursuits and taser use, Alex is ready for the worst. His inquisitive nature helps him sniff out wrongdoing. Recently, he stopped the same man twice for traffic crimes — both times the driver had fake number plates.
“When he saw me the second time, his face just dropped. He knew the game was up.”
Chief Hails ‘Exceptional’ Officer
Assistant Chief Constable Nigel Brookes praised PC McCallam’s dedication:
“PC McCallam personifies the commitment shown by Kent Police officers every day. Making over 100 arrests in a year is exceptional work, even if we don’t set targets.”
