Swindon Man Patrick Dean Williams Jailed for Life Over 2016 Rape and Multiple Sexual Offences

Swindon Man Jailed for Life Over Brutal 2016 Rape

Patrick Dean Williams, 46, from Gooch Street, Swindon, was sentenced to life in prison today. He must serve at least 14 years for a horrific rape committed between 2016 and 2017.

Convicted of Multiple Sexual Offences

Williams was previously found guilty at Swindon Crown Court in January of:

  • Rape
  • Assault by penetration
  • Causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent
  • Two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm

He also received lengthy sentences for these other crimes, but they will run alongside his life term. A restraining order now bans him from contacting the victim.

Victim Praised for Courage

The abuse came to light in 2019 when the victim bravely reported the crimes to police, while Williams was incarcerated for unrelated offences.

Detective Constable Helen Bott of Swindon CID said: “We know how difficult it is for victims of sexual offences to speak out. I want to praise the strength and courage of the victim in this case.”

“Because Williams pleaded not guilty, the victim had to relive this dark chapter in court. I hope this conviction shows that Wiltshire Police takes these crimes seriously and encourages others to come forward and get justice.”

“If you’re not ready to speak to the police, consider telling a friend, family member, or contacting specialist support.”

Support Available for Victims

Wiltshire Police urge all victims of sexual offences to report crimes by calling 101, or 999 in emergencies.

Victims can also get help from the Swindon and Wiltshire Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) via their helpline on 01793 781916.
