Newark Predator Snared After Brutal Attack on Woman
Andrea Ivanov was lurking in Newark in the dead of night when he launched a vicious assault on a woman walking home. A brave member of the public spotted the victim in distress and confronted Ivanov, who fled the scene.
CCTV Evidence Unmasks Sexual Predator
Nottinghamshire Public Protection detectives quickly stepped in. CCTV footage revealed the chilling attack on October 22, 2022, and showed Ivanov stalking another woman earlier that same night. After intensive investigations, Ivanov, 19, of North Gate, Newark, was swiftly identified and arrested for the assault.
Victim Praises Police Support for Giving Her Strength
Initially hesitant to speak out, the victim was encouraged by the rapid police action and ongoing support. She revealed, “I don’t think I would’ve been able to come forward, had I not received the support I did from the officers who came to visit me multiple times to check I was okay.”
She added, “Their compassionate manner really gave me the strength to speak about what happened. I can’t thank the police enough for everything they’ve done for me. I’d urge anyone else who has gone through something like this to speak to the police, so that they can help.”
Ivanov Sentenced to 14 Years for Rape
Ivanov admitted two counts of rape at Nottingham Crown Court on April 11, 2023. On July 19, he was handed a tough 14-year custodial sentence: nine years behind bars followed by five years on extended licence. He’s also on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.
Detective Constable Charlotte Leigh said: “Ivanov is a dangerous man who doesn’t belong anywhere near our communities. We’re pleased he’s now been punished for what he did.”
Detective Inspector Dan Holloway added: “His horrific actions have rightly seen him locked up. The victim’s courage and the support she received were crucial in bringing this dangerous man to justice.”
Nottinghamshire Police urge anyone affected by sexual abuse or rape to come forward for help. They promise to listen and relentlessly pursue offenders like Ivanov.
