Patrick McDonagh Jailed for Life
Patrick McDonagh, 21, was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 26 years at Leicester Crown Court following a gruelling five-week trial. He was also convicted of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.

Alongside McDonagh, 23-year-old Daniella Hill was found not guilty of murder but guilty of possession of an offensive weapon. She received a 15-month sentence but will walk free after time served on remand.
Shocking Knife Attack Claims Young Victim’s Life
The drama unfolded around 2am on Sunday 23 August in Braunstone Gate, Leicester, where a fight erupted involving several people. McDonagh stabbed 22-year-old Abubakar Abbas in the neck. Despite being rushed to hospital, Mr Abbas died from his injuries shortly before 11am on Tuesday 25 August.
Police Hunt and Arrests
McDonagh of Red 1 Gardens, Eyres Monsell, and Hill from Kinley Road fled the scene. Police quickly responded and arrested both at Hill’s home by 6am. Officers discovered two pairs of blood-stained trainers hidden in an unused washing machine, along with other bloodied clothes.
Detective’s Statement on Fatal Night
“McDonagh went out armed with a knife, which Hill concealed for him,” said Detective Inspector Kenny Henry of the East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU). “It is clear McDonagh was ready to use the knife if necessary. Sadly, it ended in the tragic death of a young man.
“My deepest condolences go out to Abubakar’s family. Throughout this ordeal, their strength and dignity have been remarkable. He was a beloved son and brother, and his loss is deeply felt.”
“While no sentence brings him back, I hope this verdict offers some comfort knowing justice has been served.”
