A London hotel worker was threatened with a ‘zombie’ knife during a raid at a Bayswater hotel, as police hunt a knife-wielding thief who caused chaos by raiding guest food and smashing open luggage in the early hours.

The incident occurred just before midnight on Thursday, June 28, when the thief sneaked into the upmarket hotel on Prince’s Square by pretending to be a guest. The dishevelled man deceived reception staff with a fake room number but raised suspicion when no booking matched his story.

After helping himself to sandwiches, fruit, and drinks left out for guests, the intruder left a messy trail through the kitchen, with food scraps and broken glass strewn everywhere. The suspect then broke into the hotel’s luggage store, slashing bags with a large serrated ‘zombie’ knife in a desperate attempt to loot valuables.

The lone shift worker on duty searched the entire hotel before spotting the chaos in the kitchen and rushing to the luggage room. He caught the suspect red-handed, which led to a violent confrontation. The attacker screamed, “I will kill you!” while brandishing the vicious weapon before breaking free and fleeing through a fire exit.

Although hundreds of pounds worth of damage was caused, the thief failed to make off with any stolen goods.

Detective Constable Kelly Mulder of Westminster CID said: “We’ve spent months trying to ID this man and now urgently need the public’s help. He showed extreme aggression and used a terrifying weapon. Our victim bravely confronted him but has been left frightened, especially when working alone.”

The suspect is described as a thin black male, around 6ft 2, with a shaved head and dark eyes. He wore a black top, light blue jeans, and worn black trainers.

If you recognise this dangerous criminal, contact police immediately on 101 quoting CAD1764/29thJune, or call anonymously on 0800 555 111.
