Brighton Aims to Become UK’s Women’s Rugby Hotspot

Brighton & Hove is set to become the UK’s top destination for women’s sport with a striking new outdoor exhibition launching next week. The showcase honours the spirit, strength, and stories of women’s rugby — just as the Women’s Rugby World Cup trophy rolls into town.

Powerful Photos Show Rugby’s Grit and Glory

From Monday 23 March, the Seafront Gallery will display stunning images of players from Hove Rugby Club and the University of Brighton. Photographers Bx Webb and Mo Tyrrell capture raw emotion — from fierce determination and brutal physicality to camaraderie, resilience, and sheer joy on the pitch.

Riding the Wave of World Cup Fever

Brighton & Hove City Council and local partners are driving a surge in women’s rugby after last year’s record-breaking Women’s Rugby World Cup. The city hosted two sold-out matches at the Amex Stadium and cheered England’s Red Roses to a historic victory.

  • The Strive ‘25 legacy programme has inspired thousands of women and girls to pick up rugby.
  • Community events and the Sport Lifts Her Higher campaign fight gender barriers.
  • These efforts boost visibility and access for female athletes across the city.

Inspiration on Brighton’s Famous Seafront

The exhibition runs free of charge until 26 April, located between the Brighton i360 and the Upside Down House. Councillor Bella Sankey, Leader of Brighton & Hove City Council, says it’s “as much about inspiration as celebration,” encouraging locals and fans to witness rugby’s life-changing power on and off the pitch.

With the Women’s Rugby World Cup trophy in town and local stars on show, Brighton invites everyone to celebrate how women and girls are smashing it in rugby right here in the heart of the city.
