A 19-year-old suffered serious injuries after a terrifying 65-foot plunge at Dovedale Valley, a top Derbyshire beauty spot, on Saturday. Emergency teams, including the Derby Mountain Rescue Team (DMRT), raced to the scene and airlifted him to Stoke Trauma Unit for urgent treatment.

Shock 65-Foot Fall at Dovedale

  • The teen plunged 65 feet while hiking in the popular valley.
  • Paramedics teamed up with mountain rescue volunteers to reach him.
  • He was swiftly airlifted by helicopter for specialist care.
  • Currently awaiting surgery on a damaged shoulder at Stoke Hospital.

His mother expressed heartfelt thanks on DMRT’s Facebook page: “Thank you to everyone who helped him. We have been overwhelmed with such kind messages.”

Missing Woman Triggers Second Rescue Effort

Moments after the fall, rescuers launched a panicked search for a missing woman who failed to return from a coach trip nearby. Fortunately, she was found safe and well.

DMRT confirmed: “While responding to the trauma incident, concerns about a missing person were raised. After completing the initial rescue, the team helped with search operations.”

Mountain Rescues on the Rise This Winter

This Derbyshire drama follows close on the heels of a daring Royal Marines rescue on Ben Nevis. The troops found a stranded climber, lost in a blizzard and poorly equipped, curled up in the snow.

Dutch Marine Sgt Onno Lankhaar said: “He was very lucky. If we hadn’t seen him, he wouldn’t have made it.”

With winter weather turning Britain’s peaks deadly, heroic mountain rescues are saving lives every day.
