A 12-year-old schoolboy has been rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries after a serious incident at a busy shopping centre in Reading.
The boy was airlifted to Royal Berkshire Hospital where he is currently undergoing emergency surgery. Eyewitnesses reported that the frightening event occurred inside the Topman store located within the shopping centre.
Police have closed the Topman store and are questioning staff as officers continue to investigate the incident. The usually busy shopping centre has become unusually quiet amid the ongoing police activity.
A spokeswoman for South Central Ambulance Service said, “We received a call at 4.12pm reporting a 12-year-old boy suffering a serious medical emergency. He was in a life-threatening condition. We sent three ambulances and two officers in a rapid response vehicle.”
After receiving treatment at the scene, the boy was transported to Royal Berkshire Hospital, still in a life-threatening condition.
Authorities remain on site working to determine the cause of this distressing event.
