A terrifying incident occurred in Havant on Sunday when a 65-year-old woman sustained life-threatening injuries after her scarf became caught in the wheels of her vintage 1970s style blue beach buggy.
The woman was driving down North Street in the open-top vehicle when the accident happened, causing immediate concern among nearby witnesses.
Alert passers-by quickly sprang into action, calling emergency services without delay. Paramedics arrived shortly after 12.30pm, closing the road to provide urgent treatment to the seriously injured woman at the scene.
She was subsequently transported to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham, where she remains under the care of the hospital’s resuscitation team with life-changing injuries.
A spokesman for South Central Ambulance Service stated: “We were called to reports of a woman injured while using an open top vehicle. The 65-year-old had a scarf wrapped around her neck that became trapped in the vehicle.”
“A rapid response paramedic and ambulance were dispatched. The patient received treatment on site before being rushed to hospital in a life-threatening condition.”
Emergency crews worked diligently to free the woman and provide immediate medical care. The road remained closed during the rescue operation as the woman fought for her life following the serious accident.
