Churchill Statue Targeted in Overnight Vandal Attack
Pro-Palestine activists have defaced the iconic Sir Winston Churchill statue outside Parliament. Slogans like “Zionist war criminal,” “Stop the Genocide,” “Never again is Now,” and “Globalise the Intifada” were spray-painted in a bold overnight protest.
The 1973 statue, a symbol of Britain’s wartime leadership, was spotted smeared with graffiti early this morning, sparking outrage across social media.
Fury Explodes on Social Media
The backlash was instant and fierce. One X user blasted: “Without Churchill, there’d be no Britain left to protest in. Vandals hate him because he stood against everything they pretend to fight for today.”
Another fumed: “I don’t want to share a country with people who think Churchill’s honour should be besmirched and who physically deface his statue.”
A third added: “He is a sacred symbol for the British. An attack on this statue is an attack on the heart of Britain.”
Churchill Statue Has History of Attacks
This isn’t the first time Churchill’s statue has been targeted. In September 2020, Extinction Rebellion daubed “is a racist” on its base. Earlier that year, Black Lives Matter protesters added the same slogan in June.
Authorities are investigating. The Metropolitan Police have been contacted, and Westminster heritage wardens have begun covering the graffiti with tape and plastic as clean-up gets underway.
Conservatives Demand Justice
Conservative Party deputy chair Matt Vickers condemned the vandals, insisting they must be “held to account.” He called the statue more than a monument, describing it as a powerful symbol of British resilience and leadership during the darkest hours of the 20th century.
