Chaos erupted near Fratton Way in Portsmouth this morning when a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle close to a crossing.
Hampshire Constabulary’s Roads Policing Unit promptly closed Goldsmith Avenue following the serious collision that left the victim with life-changing injuries.
Paramedics from South Central Ambulance Service arrived at the scene shortly after 10am to provide urgent medical assistance.
Specialist medics from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance were also dispatched to deliver life-saving treatment on site.
The injured pedestrian was stabilised before being airlifted to Southampton Trauma Centre for critical care.
Hampshire Police have been contacted for comment as investigations into the collision continue.
