Police Nab Suspected Drug Dealer After Dramatic Foot Chase in Nottingham
Tenant Targeted in Cuckooing Plot
Police believe a vulnerable tenant in Bentinck Road was a victim of cuckooing — a nasty tactic where drug dealers hijack someone’s home to run their drug empire.
Suspect Flees but Gets Caught
Officers were visiting the tenant when they spotted a man thought to be using the flat as a drug den. After a quick chat, the man bolted. A tense foot chase followed, as he scrambled over gardens and walls before police caught him.
Drugs and a Fake Weapon Found
During the pursuit, the suspect ditched a bag containing 15-20 wraps of suspected class A drugs. Police also found what looked like a CS spray canister in the discarded bag, leading to a second arrest.
- 49-year-old man arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs
- Also held on suspicion of possessing a Section 5 firearm (plastic canister resembling CS spray)
The arrest happened just after 8pm on 19 October 2022. He has since been released under investigation.
Police Urge Public to Speak Up
“We know that drug dealers target vulnerable and this is why we take proactive steps to safeguard them,” said PC Jordan Vilums of the Radford Road Response team. “Drugs and weapons harm communities, which is why we work hard every day to disrupt and stop this criminality.”
