Massive Fire Erupts at Southampton Waterstones Bookshop
Forty firefighters battling a fierce blaze at Southampton’s Waterstones on Above Bar Street. The fire broke out just after midday on Tuesday, sparking an emergency evacuation of staff and customers before crews arrived.
Firefighters Rush to Scene
Hampshire Fire and Rescue confirmed the fire started around 12:23pm. Engines and crews raced from St Mary’s, Redbridge, Hightown, Eastleigh, and Fareham to tackle the flames.
Blaze Bringing Chaos to Above Bar Street
Firefighters, decked out in breathing gear, battled the blaze using hose reels and jets. Support teams and officers are also on site, working hard to get the situation under control.
Road Closures Cause Disruption
Above Bar Street remains shut in both directions while emergency services continue their efforts. Police are assisting with crowd control and road management as the scene remains active.
