The M25 clockwise carriageway is completely closed with severe tailbacks after a major three-lorry collision early this morning near the M11.
At around 3am, three heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) crashed between junctions 27 and 28, forcing the motorway to close for urgent repairs and cleanup.
A passing motorist captured the shocking aftermath on camera, showing one red lorry cab twisted and mangled beyond recognition. The condition of the other two lorries involved remains unclear at this time.
Emergency crews, including Essex Police, fire teams, and traffic officers, remain at the scene managing the incident. There has been no official update regarding any injuries.
The collision caused a significant diesel spill across three lanes, rendering the road surface dangerously slippery. Although the vehicles have been removed, resurfacing work is underway, meaning the M25 closure will last throughout the afternoon.
National Highways issued a warning stating: “This serious collision means the M25 will be closed all afternoon. Expect major delays and plan ahead.”
Drivers are being directed along diversion routes marked by a hollow triangle: exit at junction 27 for the M11, follow the A406, then the A12, and rejoin the M25 at junction 28.
Motorists trapped inside the closure were partially released past the crash site on lane one, but long queues are expected throughout the morning rush hour.
Keep checking back for updates on this developing M25 traffic situation.
