Storm-Struck Puffin Rescued on Brighton Beach
Dramatic scenes unfolded on Brighton beach this Sunday as a rare puffin, battered and stranded by fierce storms, was rescued. The seabird’s unexpected appearance inland left locals stunned and rushing to help.
Rare Puffin Surprise for Rescuers
The Brighton & Hove Wildlife Advice & Rescue Service (WARS) raced to the scene after reports of an injured seabird. Initially mistaken for a razorbill, rescuers were shocked to discover it was a rare puffin – a real Sussex coastal treasure.
Strong winds from recent storms likely blew the puffin far from its offshore habitat, leaving it stranded and disoriented. Local hero Ben Talbot spotted the struggling bird and acted fast, safely scooping it up moments before WARS arrived.
Specialist Care Underway
The puffin was swiftly taken to East Sussex Wildlife Rescue & Ambulance Service (WRAS) for emergency treatment. It’s now in the capable hands of experts at Mallydams Wildlife Hospital, where it will receive specialist care.
“We’re grateful to the local community, especially the wonderful couple who rescued him,” said WARS. “Reporting injured wildlife quickly makes all the difference.”
