A fierce blaze tore through a workshop in Alford, on Guildford’s doorstep, sparking a major emergency response this Sunday afternoon.

Firefighters Race to Tackle Flame Fury

Fire crews from Cranleigh and Guildford were scrambled to Loxwood Road just after 2pm. Smoke and flames engulfed the private workshop, forcing the evacuation of 40 nearby residents to safety.

Dangerous Cylinders Force Precautions

Five gas cylinders caught fire, adding to the peril. Two firefighters donned breathing apparatus and doused the flames with hose reels. A specialist jet was deployed to cool down the cylinders and prevent explosions.

Roads Closed and Safety Zone Enforced

Police clamped down on the area, closing surrounding roads and setting up a 100-metre exclusion zone. By 5.30pm, fire crews had extinguished the blaze and lifted restrictions, allowing residents to return home.
