Chaos struck Trinity Place, Eastbourne, at 6.19pm on March 11, 2024, when a car smashed into a building. A strong gas smell raised the alarm, prompting a swift emergency response.
Woman Rescued as Firefighters Take Control
Emergency crews from East Sussex Fire and Rescue raced to the scene. A woman was trapped inside the wrecked vehicle but was quickly freed by rescue teams. The Technical Rescue Unit carefully manoeuvred the car to a safe position.
A safety cordon stretching 50 metres was set up to protect the public, with ambulance and police units arriving pronto.
Gas Engineers Called In to Check for Leaks
Specialist gas engineers were dispatched to inspect the area thoroughly for any leaks or pipeline damage. Their presence was vital amidst reports of a strong gas odour.
By 7.30pm, control of the site was handed over to the building owners.
