Woman Rescued After Four-Hour Railway Bridge Stand-Off in Winchester
A tense four-hour standoff ended peacefully today in Winchester city centre when police talked down a distressed woman perched on a railway bridge.
Stranded on Parapet for Hours
The barefoot woman, believed to be in her thirties, sat on the bridge’s parapet since mid-morning, shouting at officers who were called after concerns for her welfare.
Heroic Rescue by British Transport Police
Specialist negotiators worked tirelessly to calm her down. Just after 4.20pm, a British Transport Police officer used a ladder to help her safely back to solid ground.
Police Praise Team Effort
A British Transport Police spokeswoman said officers arrived at 11.34am following the emergency call. The team’s patient approach helped bring the woman to safety without harm.
