A man died in his prison cell just hours before his release, we can reveal. Sami Benning, also known as Samuel Groves, from Cowes on the Isle of Wight, was found dead at HM Prison Guys Marsh in Shaftesbury on Monday.

Found Dead Hours Before Freedom

Benning was due to walk free that very morning and return to the Isle of Wight. Prison staff discovered his body in his cell overnight, prompting immediate police involvement.

Police and Authorities Launch Inquiry

A police spokesman confirmed, “We can confirm that a body was found on Monday morning. It was a man in his cell. He died overnight and was found this morning in his cell.”

A post-mortem is set for later today, carried out by a Home Office pathologist.

Prison Service Ombudsman to Investigate

The Ministry of Justice said his death will be thoroughly investigated by the Prison Service Ombudsman, with more details to follow.
