Urgent Recall: The beloved children’s toy My Living World Worm World Kit is being yanked off shelves across the UK due to serious health fears. Tests revealed the sand inside the kit may contain deadly asbestos fibres.
Danger in the Dirt: Asbestos Found in Kids’ Soil Kit
The kit lets children watch earthworms tunnel through layers of sand and soil. Sold from November 2022 to February 2026, this toy turned toxic after safety checks exposed asbestos contamination. Made in China, it fails UK safety standards.
- Product Number: LW102C
- Risk: Asbestos fibres detected in sand vials
- Health Hazard: Asbestos is strictly banned in the UK, posing grave health risks even at tiny levels
Wiltshire Trading Standards launched the recall, citing breaches of the General Product Safety Regulations 2005.
What To Do If You Own The Kit
Manufacturers Playmonster, and sellers TJ Jones and Hobbycraft have pulled the kit. More retailers might join the list soon.
If you’ve got the kit, stop using it right away. Keep it well out of children’s reach.
- If unopened: Seal sand vials in a tough plastic bag, double tape it, label it clearly, and store safely.
- If used: Clean affected areas with wet cloths to stop dust spreading. Wear gloves and a mask while cleaning.
- Double-bag used cleaning materials before binning them.
- Keep kids and pets away from contaminated spots until cleaning is done.
Refunds & Safe Disposal
Anyone who bought the kit from Hobbycraft can return the sand vials in-store for a full refund. If you can’t visit a store, follow the disposal tips above and contact Hobbycraft for a refund arrangement.
