Chorley Man Jailed for Trying to Smuggle Class A, B and C Drugs into Creamfields Festival

Drug Plot Foiled at VIP Entrance

A Chorley man has been locked up after trying to sneak a stash of cocaine, ketamine, and MDMA into the famous Daresbury festival.

Liam Dodd was sentenced to 16 months in jail on Wednesday, 18 February, after admitting to possession with intent to supply Class A (MDMA), Class B (ketamine), and possession of cocaine and nitrous oxide.

Caught Red-Handed at Creamfields

Dodd bought a four-day camping ticket and arrived at the festival on Thursday, 22 August 2024. His plan unravelled just after 2pm when he tried to enter via the VIP gate.

Mandatory security checks and a drug detection dog quickly raised alarms. Creamfields security called in a Cheshire Police officer who searched Dodd thoroughly.

Officers found:

  • Three large nitrous oxide canisters, nozzles, and balloons
  • Several bags of cocaine
  • 70 to 80 purple MDMA tablets

Dodd was promptly removed from the festival and agreed to a voluntary police interview.

Confession and Consequences

During questioning, Dodd admitted he intended to share the drugs with friends expected to attend later. He claimed he wasn’t paid to smuggle the drugs and was under no threats once caught.

Police charged him based on these admissions and the evidence found on him.

Police Warn Would-Be Smugglers

“Year after year, we and the team at Creamfields make it abundantly clear that anyone attempting to bring illegal substances into the festival will face the full extent of the law,” said Police Constable Tony Icke of the Creamfields Post Event Investigation Team.

“While most festivalgoers respect these rules, a brazen few still try to sneak drugs in, thinking they’ll get away with it. This won’t be tolerated, and as this case shows, it can lead to a substantial jail sentence.”
