A 20-year-old man from Barking has been hit with a hefty jail term after a shocking motorway smash in Milton Keynes. Omar Makhluf pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and drug-impaired driving following a terrifying crash on the M1 Northbound near Newport Pagnell.
Mercedes Loses Wheel After Smashing Central Reservation
The drama unfolded at around 3.30pm on 16 February 2025. Makhluf was behind the wheel of a Mercedes when he ploughed into the central reservation, ripping off a wheel down to the rim. Instead of stopping, he carried on driving several miles with a damaged vehicle — a reckless move that could have ended in disaster.
Sentenced to Nearly Two Years and Banned From the Roads
Thankfully, no one was hurt in the incident. Police arrested Makhluf the same day, and he was formally charged six months later. On 6 March 2026, Aylesbury Crown Court sentenced him to 22 months behind bars. He also received a driving ban lasting four years and 336 days for this and other offences committed elsewhere.
Police Warning: Pull Over Safely If Your Car Is Damaged on the Motorway
Authorities remind all motorists that if your vehicle is damaged on a motorway, you must pull over safely and alert police immediately. Makhluf’s case is a stark reminder of the dangers of ignoring this rule.
