Police in Melksham have arrested two drug dealers riding illegal e-bikes, following numerous complaints about dangerous riders terrorising the town. The arrests were made possible by a vigilant police drone unit.
After receiving multiple reports of reckless e-bike riders, Wiltshire Police launched a comprehensive crackdown on the issue. Acting on reliable intelligence and with support from officers in nearby Trowbridge, Melksham police targeted two suspects seen speeding through the streets on Sur-Ron electric bikes.
These Sur-Ron e-bikes are known for their power and association with stunts and reckless behaviour, which had caused concern among local residents. The two suspects were promptly arrested for dangerous driving and possession of class B drugs.
Following the initial arrests, police conducted a raid at a nearby address linked to the suspects. This operation uncovered evidence of a broader drug supply network. The occupant of the property was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply, and the two e-bike riders were also charged with the same offence.
All three suspects have since been released on bail. The seized Sur-Ron e-bikes are set to be destroyed, sending a clear message against the use of dangerous and illegal machines in the community.
Sergeant Gemma Rutter expressed gratitude to the Melksham community for their assistance, stating, “Thank you to the Melksham community for supplying us with the information required to catch these criminals. The public are fed up of seeing these bikes being ridden dangerously and unlawfully and we will ensure we maintain our momentum on bringing them to justice. We do not want drugs on our streets or the dangerous activities and ASB that is so intrinsically linked to drugs.”
