Two individuals were arrested after a failed break-in attempt at HM Naval Base Clyde, the United Kingdom’s nuclear submarine headquarters located in Faslane, Scotland. The incident occurred on the afternoon of Thursday, 19 March 2026, when the suspects tried to enter the highly secure naval base.
Police Scotland detained a 34-year-old Iranian man and a 31-year-old Romanian woman at the scene. Both have been charged in connection with the attempted breach and are scheduled to appear at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Monday.
A police spokesperson stated, “Around 5pm on Thursday, 19 March 2026, we were made aware of two people attempting to enter HM Naval Base Clyde. A 34-year-old Iranian man and a 31-year-old Romanian woman have been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.”
Faslane is not an ordinary naval base; it is home to the Royal Navy’s Trident-armed submarines, which form the core of Britain’s nuclear deterrent. Any attempt to breach this facility represents a significant security threat.
The Royal Navy confirmed that the pair tried to gain access to the base but were stopped before they could enter. This attempted breach has raised concerns about the security measures protecting one of the United Kingdom’s most sensitive defence sites.
Officials remain on high alert as investigations continue, with increased focus on safeguarding critical military installations from future threats.
