A man has been sentenced to 28 years after carrying out a brutal attack on a nurse at Royal Oldham Hospital.
Romon Haque, 38, from Yasmin Gardens, Oldham, was found guilty of attempted murder and possession of a bladed article. Minshull Street Crown Court handed him a 28-year sentence, comprising 22 years in prison and 6 years on licence.
The terrifying assault occurred just before midnight on Saturday, 12 January 2025. Haque approached a nurse requesting medication. When she said she would return shortly, he suddenly stood up, pulled scissors from his pocket, and stabbed her three times.
The victim sustained serious wounds to her face, neck, and hands. Hospital staff quickly intervened, restraining Haque and preventing further harm. The nurse was rushed to intensive care where she received urgent treatment.
Following his arrest, Haque was deemed fit to stand trial and appeared in court during June and July 2025. The severe sentence delivered today sends a strong message that attacks on NHS workers will not be tolerated.
