A violent thug who savagely attacked a woman in Trowbridge has been sentenced to two years in prison. Jason Povey, 36, homeless and dangerous, pleaded guilty to actual bodily harm following a terrifying assault on a woman he knew.
The incident began on February 13 when Povey arrived uninvited at the victim’s home in Trowbridge. After she ignored his knocking, Povey kicked down the garden fence.
Concerned that he was drunk, the woman attempted to drive him to a relative’s house. However, while behind the wheel, Povey launched a savage attack, punching her multiple times in the face.
After she managed to escape the car, Povey continued the brutal assault. The woman tried to run away, but Povey dragged her back and aimed a stamp at her head. Fortunately, she dodged the blow.
Despite this, Povey persisted, landing punches to her face and body, causing painful injuries.
At Swindon Crown Court on March 20, Povey was sentenced to two years in prison. Additionally, he was issued a 10-year restraining order preventing him from coming near his victim.
Local crime investigator Ben Hillier commented, “Povey is a coward who launched a violent attack, leaving the woman terrified for her life. This level of violence is horrific and totally unacceptable. I welcome the custodial sentence and restraining order, which will hopefully help the victim move on.”
