Chaos erupted on New Romney High Street late Thursday night as a hooded vandal unleashed a savage hammer attack on two local shops.
A man armed with a heavy club hammer went on a destructive rampage shortly after 11pm on March 26. He targeted Drive Motor Spares and Dearman Bartlett Independent Funeral Directors, smashing windows in a brutal late-night spree.
The attacker, dressed in black jogging bottoms with white stripes and white trainers, shattered every front and side window at the funeral directors and smashed large front-facing windows at the motor spares shop. Damage costs are tipped at a massive £50,000.
Both shops have confirmed they remain open for business despite the wreckage. They are desperate for help to catch the culprit responsible for the mayhem.
“Officers were called shortly after 11pm to reports of a disturbance involving criminal damage. The man fled the scene on foot,” said Kent Police.
Police investigations are ongoing, with initial enquiries underway. Anyone with information is urged to contact Kent Police on 01843 222289, quoting reference 46/48375/26.
