Two children lost their lives in a tragic e-scooter crash in Pitsea, Essex. The incident occurred on Ashlyns on February 1 last year, involving a privately owned e-scooter and a car.
Roman Casselden, aged 16, and his sister Darcie, aged 9, were fatally injured in the collision. The car involved was driven by 21-year-old Deimante Ziobryte from Benfleet.
Although police investigations found no offences related to the cause of the crash, Ziobryte failed to stop at the scene and fled. Essex Police launched a Serious Collision Investigation and located Ziobryte nearby shortly after the incident.
She was charged with leaving the scene of a collision and appeared at Basildon Magistrates’ Court on March 6, where she pleaded guilty. Ziobryte is scheduled to be sentenced at the same court on May 6.
Detective Sergeant Sam Nason, who led the investigation, said, “My thoughts, and those of my team, are with Roman and Darcie’s friends and family.”
