The police were called to Romany Lane, Tilehurst, on Sunday, 31 October, after reports of a stabbing. The victim was 22-year-old Reece Heffernan from Tilehurst. A post-mortem examination revealed he died from a stab wound to the chest. Our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time.

On the night of 4 November, a 17-year-old boy from Earley was arrested on suspicion of murder. He has since been charged with one count of murder, one count of perverting the course of justice, and one count of possession of a bladed article. He is scheduled to appear at Reading Magistrates’ Court on 6 November.

Yesterday, two more men were charged in connection with the stabbing. Hamzah Ahmed, 18, of Jubilee Road, Reading, was charged with murder. Umer Arshad, 23, of Waterloo Road, Wokingham, was charged with perverting the course of justice. Both men appeared at Reading Magistrates’ Court today and are due to appear at Reading Crown Court on Monday, 8 November.

Additionally, police arrested a 29-year-old man and two 19-year-olds from Reading on suspicion of murder. These individuals have now been released under investigation as the inquiry continues.
