A tragic incident occurred at Stoke Newington Police Station on Saturday night, resulting in the closure of the front desk area. A 68-year-old man climbed onto a telephone kiosk located inside the station’s front office and jumped down, sustaining critical injuries.

Despite urgent efforts by officers and emergency services, the man died at the scene. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that he was not detained or taken into custody at any time. He had been freely entering and leaving the station since 9 a.m. that day without making contact with police officers.

The force’s Directorate of Professional Standards is currently investigating the incident. A note was discovered at the scene, and a report will be submitted to the coroner. The authorities have also informed the man’s next of kin.

A police cordon was established, and the station remained closed from just before 7 p.m. Hackney Police emphasized that the man entered the station voluntarily and was never apprehended. They stated, “The circumstances are being investigated. The next of kin is not under investigation.”
