Salman Yousaf, aged 46, has been sentenced to more than four years imprisonment after sexually assaulting women on London’s Night Tube services. The British Transport Police (BTP) handed down the sentence at Inner London Crown Court on 20 May following a joint investigation with the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS).

The investigation connected Yousaf to nine offences committed between 2017 and 2021. At the time of his arrest for these offences, Yousaf was already serving a seven-year sentence at HMP Pentonville.

Yousaf targeted vulnerable women who were travelling alone, often after he fell asleep on Central and Jubilee Line Night Tube trains. His criminal acts included eight counts of sexual assault and one count of outraging public decency.

The first recorded incident took place at 5am on 11 March 2017 near Stratford, where Yousaf masturbated in front of a female passenger.

Information provided by the Metropolitan Police Service about Yousaf’s previous offending matched details from unsolved Night Tube cases. The combined efforts of the BTP and MPS established his involvement in a series of covert assaults over a four-year period that had previously remained unresolved.

During the court hearing, Yousaf pleaded guilty to all charges. He was sentenced to four and a half years in prison, followed by an additional four years on licence after his release. Furthermore, he has been placed on the sex offenders register for life and issued a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) to restrict his future behaviour.

Detectives arrested Yousaf at HMP Pentonville on 16 April 2024, where he declined to comment. The Crown Prosecution Service authorised all nine charges after the investigation, ensuring that Yousaf is held accountable for his calculated attacks on vulnerable women across the London Underground network.
