A medical emergency unfolded at Wildern School in Hedge End, Southampton, this morning when a staff member became unwell during a Year 7 assembly. The incident triggered an urgent response from emergency services, including the arrival of an air ambulance.
Emergency services were called promptly on Tuesday, and the air ambulance landed shortly after to provide medical assistance to the staff member, who is now reported to be in stable condition. To ensure the safety of all students and staff, Wildern School quickly implemented a lockdown, securing classrooms and keeping students in lessons while the situation was managed.
The school communicated with parents, confirming the lockdown and explaining the circumstances: “This morning we have had to lock down the school due to a member of staff being taken ill in the Year 7 assembly. We called out the air ambulance and kept students in lessons.”
Understanding the potential distress caused by the incident, especially for those who witnessed it, the school offered Year 7 pupils the option to leave early. Parents were advised to collect their children from the sports hall and to send a text message upon arrival so that students could be safely escorted to the car park. The school emphasized that students leaving early must be collected by a parent or guardian, as walking home alone is not allowed due to the sensitive nature of the morning’s events.
Hampshire Constabulary confirmed they were not involved in the response to the incident. South Central Ambulance Service and Wildern School were contacted for further updates but had not provided comments by press time.
