Fire crews from Hampshire Fire and Rescue rushed to a crash on Wide Lane, Southampton, just before 6pm on Sunday. Two cars collided in a nasty smash-up, causing chaos on the roads.
One driver was trapped inside their vehicle and had to be cut free by firefighters using specialist equipment. The rescued motorist was handed over to South Central Ambulance Service and later taken to Southampton General Hospital for treatment.
Police shut Mansbridge Road and Wide Lane following the collision, blocking routes for special replacement bus services at nearby Swaythling station. Commuters were left stranded as buses struggled to reach their stops amid the closures and ongoing engineering works.
