One lane remains shut on the M3 this morning after a three-vehicle crash caused significant traffic disruption between junction 13 (Chandlers Ford) and junction 12 (Eastleigh). Long delays are reported, with traffic jams extending back to junction 7 on the M27 westbound.
The collision involved a flatbed recovery truck, two cars, and a van, prompting a major emergency response. Police, fire crews, and ambulance teams arrived at the scene shortly before 10am.
Hampshire Fire and Rescue confirmed they were called just before 10am to attend to the two-vehicle crash. Two fire engines from Eastleigh were dispatched to make the area safe after dealing with a significant oil spill caused by the broken-down truck. The crews cleared the site by 10.30am.
South Central Ambulance Service deployed a Hazardous Area Response team, two ambulance crews, and officers following the crash at 9.48am. Six people received treatment on-site. Four patients were treated and released at the scene, while a man was rushed to Royal South Hants Hospital. Additionally, a woman in her sixties with serious injuries was taken to Southampton General Hospital.
Highways England has enforced a hard lane closure to facilitate the cleanup of the oil spill, resulting in ongoing delays for commuters during this morning’s rush hour.
