Chaos unfolded on the A27 in Fareham tonight when a blue Vauxhall Astra flipped onto its roof at the Quay Street roundabout. The incident led to the closure of two lanes heading towards the M27 after the car crashed into a lamp post and rolled during a sharp bend.
Emergency services responded swiftly to the scene. Two fire crews, police officers, and paramedics attended to the 25-year-old female driver, who fortunately escaped without serious injury. She sustained a minor back injury and was transported to Queen Alexandra Hospital for treatment.
Eyewitnesses reported that the driver may have been distracted, possibly using her phone while negotiating the bend at speed. Nearby motorcyclists said the Astra clipped a streetlight before overturning.
SSE contractors were called to secure the damaged streetlight, which was left hanging dangerously by its cables. In the meantime, traffic has been diverted via Quay Street as crews work to clear the wreckage and carry out emergency repairs.
A spokesperson for South Central Ambulance Service said, “We sent a rapid response unit and an ambulance which took the patient to Queen Alexandra Hospital.”
