A 24-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of child neglect after her toddler fell from a first-floor window in Gosport this morning. The child was rushed to hospital following the frightening incident.

The incident occurred just after 8:30am at Renown House, where neighbours reported that paramedics arrived quickly and took the injured child away in an ambulance. Residents watched in shock as police remained at the scene throughout the morning.

One neighbour, who wished to remain anonymous, said the mother appeared to be heavily intoxicated and was asleep when the fall happened. “I saw the child fall from the window and ran downstairs to help. The child was covered in blood,” they said. It was also reported that the mother was too drunk to accompany the child to hospital.

The youngster was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham. A spokeswoman for South Central Ambulance Service confirmed: “We were called at 8.39am to reports of a child falling from a window in Gosport. The child was taken to hospital after sustaining minor injuries.”

A police spokeswoman added that the child is still undergoing tests and that investigations are ongoing.
