A black Fiat 500 rolled onto its side after crashing into a kerb in Gosport last night. The incident occurred just after 10pm on Wednesday evening.
The driver was rushed to hospital but is not believed to have sustained serious injuries.
Emergency services responded promptly to the scene. The South Central Ambulance Service dispatched two ambulances, a rapid response paramedic, and a specialist HART team following reports that the driver was trapped inside the vehicle.
Hampshire Fire and Rescue sent two fire engines from Gosport and Fareham, along with a specialist rescue support unit from Cosham. Fire crews made the vehicle safe and managed to right it back onto its wheels.
During the recovery operation, police closed Nobes Avenue and the junction with Brewers Lane.
Local residents have voiced concerns over reckless driving in the area, blaming dangerous speeding for the crash. Many say Nobes Avenue is frequently used as a makeshift race track.
“This one may have been a genuine accident,” said local resident Mandy Harding. “I live in Nobes and it’s getting worse. People treat it like a race track, and at night it’s mopeds. Someone will be killed or seriously injured one day.”
Community calls are increasing for police to take stronger action against reckless driving before a serious injury or fatality occurs.
