Police have closed the A34 northbound following a horrific crash involving four lorries, a van, and two cars just after 5pm tonight. Emergency services, including police, fire, ambulance, and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, rushed to the scene.
Tragically, four people died at the scene, all believed to be occupants of a single vehicle. In addition, 12 others sustained injuries and were either treated at the scene or taken to hospital for further care.
A spokesperson for South Central Ambulance Service confirmed that three ambulance crews, three ambulance officers, and specialist hazardous area response teams were deployed. The air ambulance was also scrambled to assist with this serious incident.
Thames Valley Police inspector Andy Storey urged drivers to avoid the area, stating, “Officers are currently on the scene responding to this fatal collision. All motorists should avoid the area and seek alternative routes. Please be patient while we deal with this incident.”
Inspector Storey also appealed to witnesses, saying, “We’re appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision, including those travelling southbound who saw anything significant, to contact police.”
Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is asked to call Thames Valley Police’s 24-hour enquiry centre on 101, quoting reference URN 1109 10/8.
