A cyclist was seriously injured in a collision with a car in Bridgemary, Gosport, just before 6pm last night. Emergency crews were dispatched to Nobes Avenue following the crash, leading to the closure of the road between Kev Jones Convenience Store and Keys Road for investigation purposes.
The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance landed in Nobes field adjacent to the local shopping parade as concerned onlookers gathered at the scene. Medical teams provided treatment to the cyclist before transporting him to Southampton General Hospital.
The injured patient, a man in his 30s, was taken by land ambulance with an air ambulance doctor onboard to ensure continuous medical care during transit.
Nearby residents assisted the injured cyclist by comforting him and wrapping him in blankets prior to the arrival of paramedics, helping to maintain his stability amid the incident.
Hampshire Road Policing Officers are currently investigating the crash, which is believed to have occurred after the cyclist rode into the path of a green Citroën Picasso. A spokeswoman from South Central Ambulance Service confirmed: “We sent a rapid response vehicle, a rapid response crew and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance. We treated one male patient in his 30s for serious injuries. He was treated at the scene and taken by land ambulance to Southampton General Hospital.”
Traffic remains blocked on Nobes Avenue as police continue their inquiries into the collision.
