Chaos erupted in Portsmouth this afternoon after a pedestrian was hit by a car on Alfred Road, leading to the closure of the busy junction with Unicorn Road. The incident has caused significant traffic delays, with queues extending back onto the M275 and widespread gridlock affecting nearby streets.
The collision occurred at around 12.30pm, when a pedestrian suffered a head injury after being struck by a vehicle. Paramedics from South Central Ambulance Service responded promptly, dispatching both an ambulance and a rapid response team to the scene. The injured person is currently receiving medical treatment.
Police have closed the junction of Alfred Road and Unicorn Road to manage the situation and carry out their investigation. Drivers are being urged to avoid the area and find alternative routes to ease congestion while the incident is being dealt with.
