A daring police chase in Farnborough ended with a crash when the driver smashed into a lamppost and was subsequently arrested for drug offences.

At around 10.40pm on Tuesday, Hampshire Police attempted to stop a Honda Civic on the streets of Farnborough. The driver accelerated, prompting a short but intense pursuit.

The chase concluded when the vehicle lost control, hit a bollard on Government House Road, spun 180 degrees, and collided head-on with a lamppost.

Firefighters from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service responded quickly. Two crews from Rushmoor station had to cut the male driver free from the damaged Honda after he became trapped inside.

Crew Manager Steve Fox described the incident: “The driver hit a bollard, which uprooted it, spun his car 180 degrees, and the driver’s side smashed into a lamppost.”

Paramedics from South East Coast Ambulance Service treated the man for head and leg injuries before transporting him to Frimley Park Hospital for further evaluation. His injuries were not life-threatening.

While at the hospital, the driver was arrested on suspicion of drug offences and is currently in police custody.

A Hampshire Police spokeswoman confirmed the events, stating: “A short time after failing to stop, the same vehicle was found having collided with a bollard in Government House Road.”

Local residents remain shaken by the high-speed incident on their streets as police continue investigating the drug-related offences connected to the suspect.
