A serious crash involving two vehicles occurred near the M2 Medway Services on the Londonbound carriageway, prompting a police investigation. The collision took place around 2.30pm on Saturday, 18 May 2019, inside the Medway Services site near Junction 4.
The incident involved a black Citroen Berlingo van and a gold Volvo estate. An unmarked police car, which was already following one of the vehicles, was the first to arrive at the scene. They were soon supported by the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, Kent Fire and Rescue, and South East Coast Ambulance Service teams.
The driver of the van sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to a hospital in London, where he remains in critical condition. Another man was taken to a local hospital as a precautionary measure.
Following the collision, a man and a woman were arrested and are currently in police custody. Due to the involvement of the unmarked police car nearby, Kent Police have referred the case to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
Police are appealing for witnesses who were at Medway Services or the surrounding area at the time of the crash. Anyone who saw the collision or has dashcam footage is urged to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 01622 798 538 or email [email protected]. Quote reference 18-903.
