Just before 6pm on Tuesday, 28 May, emergency crews were called to the River Wey near the Rowbarge pub after urgent reports that a man had dived into the river but failed to resurface.

Tragically, the man’s body was recovered from the river later that evening. While formal identification has not yet been completed, authorities have confirmed his identity and informed his next of kin.

A large emergency response was deployed at the scene, including police, Surrey Fire and Rescue, South East Coast Ambulance Service, a dive team, and search and rescue units. Officials have urged the public to stay clear of the area to allow emergency teams to carry out their work without interruption.

The death is currently being treated as unexplained. Police have stated there is no suspicion of foul play or involvement of others. A full file will be submitted to the coroner for further investigation.
