The shocking death of 10-year-old Sara Sharif has prompted a major police investigation in Woking, Surrey. Sara’s body was discovered at the family home on Hammond Road in the early hours of August 10.
Initial post-mortem examinations have not revealed a clear cause of death, leaving the circumstances surrounding Sara’s passing a mystery.
Surrey Police have now launched a full murder inquiry to uncover the truth behind this tragic event. Although no arrests have been made, officers are seeking to speak with three individuals known to Sara. These individuals reportedly booked one-way flights to Pakistan and left the United Kingdom on August 9, one day before Sara’s body was found.
Detective Superintendent Mark Chapman confirmed that the National Crime Agency (NCA) is supporting Surrey Police in the investigation. Specialist officers from the NCA’s Joint International Crime Centre are providing operational support, advice, and international expertise to assist with the case.
The NCA stated, “The NCA is supporting Surrey Police with their investigations into the murder of a 10-year-old girl.”
The investigation is complicated by international factors, including ties to Pakistan. Formal discussions with British authorities have not yet taken place, and the absence of a formal extradition treaty between the two countries adds complexity to the inquiry.
Sara’s mother has been informed of the situation and is receiving care and support from specially trained officers during this difficult time.
