Emergency crews were called to a house on Elm Road in Norton Canes, Staffordshire, early on Christmas morning after reports that a man in his thirties was in cardiac arrest.
Despite the paramedics’ urgent efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene just after 3:25am on 25 December.
Staffordshire Police confirmed that a 33-year-old woman from nearby Cannock has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the incident. She remains in police custody as detectives continue their investigation.
The man’s next of kin have been informed and are receiving support from specially trained officers.
A police spokesperson said: “We are working tirelessly to understand the full circumstances surrounding this tragic event. Residents may notice an increased police presence as we continue our enquiries and work to reassure the community.”
A post-mortem examination is scheduled for Boxing Day to establish the exact cause of death.
The local community has expressed shock and sadness over the incident. One neighbour commented: “It’s heartbreaking to see something like this on Christmas Day. The whole community is in disbelief.”
