Alfie Miller, 22, has been found guilty of the stabbing death of Darren Hughes in a brutal attack in Salisbury. The incident has caused outrage in the Longhedge community following the deadly stabbing.

Miller, from Willow Drive, Durrington, stabbed 52-year-old Darren Hughes multiple times in the bathroom of Darren’s Longhedge home at around 7.45am on May 3. After the violent assault, Miller called out to neighbours to contact the police before fleeing the scene.

The two men were known to each other through a mutual friend and had spent the previous night drinking and using drugs, including cocaine and cannabis.

Miller admitted to manslaughter but denied murder, claiming that Darren made unwanted advances and that he acted in self-defence. He also attempted to use a ‘loss of control’ defence during the trial.

However, Judge HHJ Dugdale rejected these defences and instructed the jury to determine whether Miller intended to kill or cause serious harm. The jury returned a unanimous verdict of guilty for murder.

Detective Inspector Darren Ambrose commented, “This was a brutal and violent attack against a defenceless victim. Darren was unarmed and just about to shower when Miller murdered him. Justice has been served for Darren’s family.”

Darren Hughes’s family expressed their response, stating, “This was the only acceptable outcome. We thank Wiltshire Police and the Crown Prosecution. We ask for privacy to grieve and urge people to think before posting hurtful comments on social media.”

Alfie Miller remains in custody and is due to be sentenced on December 17.
